Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge project is a house my clients built in a beautiful neighborhood overlooking the mountains about 12 years ago and they were wanting to refresh some of the finishes in the main open living space as well as sourcing new furniture. My clients are very family centric and wanted to create a space for everyone to feel comfortable while being together.

A fresh coat of warm white paint was applied in the main space in a method called color drenching, which is using the same color on the walls, ceiling and trim, creating an elevated design moment. The fireplace was already the focal point of the room so to accentuate the existing millwork a rich, warm black color was applied. The kitchen island was also painted the same black to tie the two spaces together while the perimeter cabinets were lightened up from their original dark wood finish to a timeless neutral greige. The dining room classic French blue paint provides a pop of color to the main floor.

All the lighting was replaced and custom furniture and textiles selected to ensure maximum seating but still allow room for an occasional dance party by the clients lovely four girls. Mixing in a few antique pieces helps to balance the newer furniture and modern geometric fabrics while maintaining a minimalistic no fuss feel to the home.

Fairview Estate

This very stately home sits on a gorgeous hill overlooking the mountains with its brick exterior and large columns it’s reminiscent of Tara from Gone with the Wind, however the inside was lacking in character and grandeur to match its exterior. The grand open living room was in need of a focal point and something to help draw the eye up to accentuate the high ceilings.

I designed custom built ins to surround the fireplace giving scale and character to the room. This added storage, a dedicated space to display items from my clients world travels and a better solution for tv placement. The updated paint in a calming neutral color compliments the dark mahogany wood tones found throughout the home. The addition of wood flooring installed in a herringbone pattern adds interest and old world charm to the previously carpeted living room. The dated tile on the fireplace surround was also swapped for a more neutral organic limestone. Other improvements included paint throughout the house, a powder room upgrade, office update as well as lighting, furniture and décor selections.

Catawba

My clients bought a brick colonial home and tackled a kitchen remodel on their own but they had an additional living space adjacent that they were struggling to figure out how to use. The clients use this room as their main thoroughfare as it has easy access to the driveway so naturally it turned into a drop zone for shoes, backpacks, coats, etc. Custom built-ins flanking the fireplace with a bench and storage allows this space to function like a classy mud room while doubling as additional living space. The dark moody blue gives it an old world timeless vibe while being cozy and fun. It contrasts beautifully with the lighter kitchen and hickory wood floors.
